The Squirrel Deterrent System (SDS) is intended to prevent squirrels from gaining access to electrical components within the distribution system and causing outages. Statistics show that squirrels cause more electrical outages than any other species of wildlife. They travel along conductors, gaining access to substations, switches, and transformers where the energized conductors and the ground potential are close enough together that the squirred can short them. This obviously will fatally harm the squirrel and will result in equipment damage and failure
