tii 356M3 Heavy Duty Station Protector Three-Electrode Heavy Duty Balanced Gas Tube Fully Encapsulated Assembly Narrow Breakdown Voltage Range Over-Current PTC Transient Surge Protection Reduces Maintenance Cost Listed to UL 497 The tii 356M3 module consists of a tii Balanced Heavy Duty narrow breakdown voltage range three-electrode gas tube surge arrester, failshort device, backup airgaps and a set of over-current protection elements. KEY PRODUCT BENEFITS The eXXntire assembly is completely encapsulated to prevent moisture entry and environmental contamination. The completely self-contained unit is provided withXX a corrosion-resistant ground strap and two threaded binding posts for service wire and two wires with spade lugs for station wire connection. Totel Failsafe®XX protection is provided in three ways: 1) The gas tube operates on overvoltage surges and shunts the transients to the ground. 2) The overcurrent protection elements limit the currents that may otherwise escape to customer premise equipment. 3) The backup airgap provides surge protection in the unlikely event the gas tube arrester should vent. The XXtii 356M3 may be employed in a variety of single and multiple pair protector assemblies and NIDs. When mounted in a tii station protector or network interface device (NID), the assembly is UL listed in the Signal Circuit Protector category. The gas tube recovers after a surge, and remains ready for continued operation XXnormally for many years. The over-current protection elements consist of PTC (Positive Temperature XXCoefficient) resistors and inductors. While inductors delay fast-rising surges from reaching the secondary protectors, XXthe PTCs prevent damage from induced currents. This combination of total overvoltage and over-current protection reduces maintenance costs over the life of an installation.
