6S Series Balanced 5-Pin Solid-State Protector Modules An Evolant™ Solutions Product Description Corning Cable Systems’ 6S family of protector modules provides state-of-the-art protection for central office equipment, remote terminal and building entrance terminal applications. The balanced solid-state design limits voltage surges as fast as a 10 kV/ìs to levels only slightly above their DC breakdown voltage. Tip and ring are grounded simultaneously when either side is triggered, limiting any transverse impulse voltages. Corning Cable Systems’ patented fail-safe mechanism permanently shorts the line to ground under sustained high currents, providing protection in extreme conditions. Solid-state ceramic sneak current protectors in the 6SP and 6EP series modules are self-restoring. The 5-pin configuration makes these modules interchangeable with most existing central office modules. The unit’s signal circuit pins are provided with tin or gold plating as required. Detents permit easy disconnect while maintaining protection on outside plant cables. Additionally, environmentally sealed modules are available for outdoor use. The 6S family of protectors provides enhanced protection for sensitive switching equipment.
